The Lakeland Collection’s distinct homes feature lifestyle-oriented, character-rich architecture. The hallmarks of each style are explored below:
Coastal
Airy and light-filled, the Coastal style was inspired by a combination of Classical, French and Colonial architecture. Known for their elegant simplicity, Coastal homes feature large windows to uniquely frame the sweeping ocean and lake views beyond while utilizing innovative design techniques motivated by the surrounding water, sand and fresh breezes.
French Country
France’s great chateaux draw largely on the forms and proportions of Renaissance design. Though they are more restrained and built of more rustic local materials they remain animated by the same graceful proportions and elegance of detail. It is these homes, dignified yet charming, that will serve as the inspiration for French Country homes in Mahogany.
Shingle
Architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright rebelled against Victorian fussiness and began using natural colours and informal compositions to suggest the rustic homes of New England settlers. By covering most or all of a building with shingles stained a single colour, visionary architects created a simple, unembellished surface.
Arts & Cratfs
The Arts & Crafts movement arose in the late 19th century in Britain artists and designers seeking an alternative to mechanized production looked to the ancient crafts traditions for inspiration. These structures had a highly picturesque charm and their use of local materials and traditional techniques rooted them in their country settings.
